Government has pledged to create an enabling environment for the successful implementation of the 24-hour economy policy direction. On Friday 29th May, 2026, Ministry of Transport and Logistics Permanent Secretary Eng. Fredrick Mwalusaka officiated at a public symposium on the ‘Preparedness of the transport and logistics sector to the 24 – hour economy policy’.
The symposium, held at Lusaka’s Mulungushi International Conference Centre, was organised by the Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
          Mr. Mwalusaka emphasised Government’s seriousness to ensure the policy succeeds.
“In this regard, Government continues to invest in strategic transport infrastructure, including roads, railways, aviation facilities, border infrastructure, and logistics systems, while also promoting digitalisation, trade facilitation, and regional connectivity,” he told the audience.
          “These initiatives are intended to position Zambia as a competitive transport and logistics hub within the region and to unlock new opportunities for business growth, job creation, exports, and investment.”
He called on stakeholders to work together in identifying practical measures that can strengthen operational efficiency, improve service delivery, enhance safety and security, build human capital, and support innovation within the sector.
          Mr. Mwalusaka further commended the Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport for organising such a symposium. “This symposium is therefore timely and aligns well with the Ministry of Transport and Logistics Strategic Plan, which prioritises the development of efficient, integrated, safe, resilient, and sustainable transport and logistics systems that support national development,” said Eng. Mwalusaka. “It also contributes directly to the objectives of the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP), particularly in advancing economic transformation, industrialisation, trade facilitation, regional integration, and private sector-led growth. Above all, it supports Zambia’s aspiration under Vision 2030 of becoming ‘a prosperous middle-income nation’.”
