The Zambian Government, through the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, is putting up premium efforts to advance the aviation sector, a game changer for Zambia’s Transport and Logistics.
Among important facilities in the Government lens is the Mansa Airport that is undergoing an upgrade to accommodate bigger aircraft, and that will facilitate increased traveler volumes.
Already, the airport has seen an increase in the number of flights from once a week in 2019 to thrice a week in 2022 and now daily flights for week days, much to the delight of the travelling public.
David Mbulo, one of the passengers on Proflight Zambia, says passenger movement from Lusaka to Mansa is now easy due to the regular flights.
And Elizabeth Habeenzu, a mother who travelled with an infant, said the regular flights are key for emergency responses to medical travelers. Habeenzu, who is serving as a medical doctor at Mansa General Hospital, says she was in danger and needed immediate evacuation into Lusaka where she had to travel with her baby and the availability of flights in and out of Mansa saved her life.
And Jessica Maslen, a humanitarian worker based in Mansa, commended the Government for the increased air traffic into Mansa and hopes that with increased frequency should come a reduction in the air fares.
Meanwhile, Cuthbert Kanene says on a monthly basis, he uses the airport facility sometimes up to three times, making it easy for him to get to Lusaka and other parts of the country.
The expansion of the facility will see more tourist arrivals into Luapula Province and increased trade in the region.
