Jimbe Border Post is in Ikelenge District in North Western Province. The Border Post connects Zambia with Angola near Luau/Souto, serving as a key crossing on the Mwinilunga-Jimbe Road. This route is vital for trade and travel once the road network is upgraded to bituminous standard.
The Border Post is under the Lobito Transport Corridor and is earmarked for transformation into a modern One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) for improved facilitation of cargo movement and trade. Currently, it is a small, functional post with minimal facilities powered by solar for computers, but with the planned major upgrades into a One-Stop Border Post, hydro-electricity is expected to be installed. The border is open daily from 06:00 to 18:00 hours.
In terms of the road network, the Zambian side is undergoing major rehabilitation to bitumen standard as part of the Lobito Corridor project, while the Angolan side is still quite rough. This has resulted in limited traffic, mostly small vehicles, but the situation will definitely improve once the facility becomes a One Stop Border Post.
As a partner in the Lobito Corridor Development, the African Development Bank is financing the upgrading of the 105-kilometre Mwinilunga-Jimbe road and the design of the One Stop Border Post to create a more efficient transport link. This is expected to reduce transport costs, foster regional integration, and improve market access for local communities.
