Airport Land Use Plan begins To Bear Fruit

On Thursday 11th December, 2025, Minister of Transport and Logistics Hon. Museba F. Tayali commissioned a new filling station belonging to Total Energies, the first facility on the Airport Land-Use Plan.

The filling station has been built on Zambia Airports Corporation Limited land in Lusaka on Airport Road not far from the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA).

This important development supports Government’s ambition to build a modern, efficient and fully integrated transport system.

Zambia’s National Transport Policy sets out a clear vision: to transform the country into a regional Transport and Logistics hub anchored on safe, reliable, sustainable and well-connected transport networks.

To actualise this vision, the Government has continued to oversee significant investments in aviation and supporting infrastructure, ensuring that Zambia’s airports meet international standards and positioning the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) as a future aviation hub for the SADC region.

Hon. Tayali acknowledged that achieving such status requires more than world-class airport buildings.

He further said it demands strong partnerships, coordinated planning and meaningful private sector participation.

He described the commissioning of Total Filling Station as not merely the opening of a facility, but a demonstration of what can be achieved when Government and the private sector work collaboratively toward national development.

From Government’s perspective, this development enhances service efficiency, improves passenger and community convenience and strengthens the essential support systems needed for an effective transport and logistics ecosystem.

Hon. Tayali noted that fuel remains a critical enabler of mobility across all transport modes. He said by allowing the development of this filling station within the airport zone, Government is enhancing road and air connectivity, ensuring that travellers, airport staff and service providers have reliable access to essential services as part of their travel journey.

Indeed, this is both an infrastructural milestone and a strong vote of confidence in Zambia’s expanding transport and aviation sector.
