GOVERNMENT has committed to quickly iron out any bilateral glitches that could have arisen with the Turkish Government due to the Yapi Merkezi contract that did not yield the best of results for rehabilitation of Zambia Railways.
Speaking when new Turkish Ambassador to Zambia HUSEYIN DiCLE paid a courtesy call on him this morning, Minister of Transport and Logistics Hon. Eng. Esq. MUSEBA FRANK TAYALI, said he would be engaging with the Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, who is Chairperson of the Industrial Development Corporation to seek guidance on the Yapi Merkezi.
He said Zambia is interested in benefiting from the advanced technology that Turkey offers, including the development of infrastructure like briges and areas like drone technology that could help in the monitoring of road and rail transport.
Hon. Tayali said the Ministry sees the importance of collaboration and would like to see more investors coming to partner in the Transport and Logistics sector.
And Mr. DiCLE said his country is ready to support Zambia in building institutional capacity that would help bring about industrial development.
He noted that Zambia offers varied opportunities for Turkish investment among them Agriculture, tourism, and the Transport and logistics sectors.
He said if there are any misunderstanding that appear to number any bilateral cooperation, they could be resolved outside the Court of Law.
The diplomat pledged to see how best he could work with the Ministry of Transport and Logistics to bring about positive change while in Zambia.
Last year, Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) faced a major crisis in its recapitalisation and modernisation project, which was aimed at rehabilitating and modernising the country’s railway infrastructure.
The project was expected to improve the efficiency and safety of the railway network, reduce transit times and costs, and increase revenue for the company.
