MINISTER of Transport and Logistics Hon. Eng. Esq. MUSEBA F. TAYALI has expressed concern at the high number of motorcyclists riding bikes without helmets and licenses.
Speaking in an interview in Chipata this morning, the Minister emphasised that motorcycles are vehicles and can lead to deaths if not carefully handled.
He said he is leading a team from the Road Transport Safetly Agency (RTSA) to ensure that lives are safe during the 2025 Edition of the Nc’wala Traditional Ceremony of the Ngoni speaking people in Chipata.
Hon. TAYALI said the policy is a matter of urgency considering the growing number of motorbikes around the country, especially in Chipata and Solwezi.
The Minister said motorbikes as a new mode of Transport are here to stay and therefore to be properly profiled for road safety.
He said suppliers of the motorcycles need to be guided to provide two to three head protection gear at the point of selling the bikes and that bikers need to be trained just like drivers of other motor vehicles.
The Ncwala is, first of all, a traditional ceremony in Zambia, usually slated for the last week of February.
