ZAMCARGO has with immediate effect taken over operations at the Zambia’s Dry Port at Walvis Bay.
This follows yesterday’s pronouncement by the Minister of Transport and Logistics Hon. MUSEBA TAYALI, MP. Meanwhile, Namibia Port Authority (NAMPORT) has officially evicted Africa Union Finances Services (AUFS) from the Zambian Dry Port premises.
This move has been necessitated following the expiration of the six months’ notice period following of termination of the concession.
Hon. TAYALI made this announcement in Walvis Bay during his tour of duty to physically implement the termination of the contract of the concessionaire which expired on Saturday, 22nd July 2023.
The Minster said it was highly regrettable that the concessionaire did not make any substantial infrastructure developments on the Dry Port site and that during their tenure, they did not conduct themselves to the satisfaction of NAMPORT and the Zambian Government.
Hon. TAYALI was accompanied by Permanent Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mr. FREDRICK MWALUSAKA, Permanent Secretary in charge of Policy Analysis and Coordination at Cabinet Office Mr. BERNARD KAMPHASA and other Senior Government Officials.
The Minister has thanked his counterpart Hon. MUTORWA, NAMPORT and the Government of Namibia for fully support rendered to the move and assured that all liabilities owed to NAMPORT will be addressed by the Zambian Government.
The Zambian Dry Port at Walvis Bay is the busiest regional terminal situated in Namibia.
The main objective for the Zambian Government will be to develop the dry port into a modern facility that will enhance imports and exports as part of Government’s desire for the development of the Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Corridor.
